Celebrating the darkest hearts…

You’re a writer of romance, horror, sci-fi, or fantasy and are looking for an editor who will be in your corner to encourage you, but who will also help you kill your darlings to sharpen your story.

I have an unhinged passion for unlikeable and morally grey characters (but to be clear, I do not discriminate against cinnamon rolls and golden retrievers — all are welcome). Whether you’re writing a why-choose chicken-shifter romance, or an enemies-to-lovers series set in haunted amusement parks, or perhaps there’s something strange happening aboard your doomed mission to Europa, I’m here for you and can’t wait to experience your personal brand of weird and exciting.

Writing can be an isolating experience, but everyone needs feedback to grow as a writer and to help shape their writing project into its highest potential. As a writer myself, I understand the vulnerability involved in trusting someone else with your innermost words and worlds. That’s why I pride myself on the three E’s: empathy, empowerment, and ethics.

Empathy

Empathy is one of my superpowers, and I use it in two ways. First, in my care and handling of your manuscript. Completing a novel is a momentous accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated. No matter which editing service you choose, I will applaud your story’s strengths while pointing out what needs to be tweaked to elevate your manuscript. Second, to connect with your characters. To see the beauty in both your heroes and villains, even (and especially) when they are making questionable life choices.

Empowerment

You, the author, are in control. It is my job, as your editor, to make suggestions, but you are under no obligation to accept them. All suggestions will be made as comments or using Word’s Track Changes feature. You may reject them, use my words verbatim, or use them as a jumping-off point to rework your prose. I always want you to feel in control and be confident about your next steps in the revision process.

Ethics

I am vehemently opposed to generative AI and will never use AI to edit your story, nor will I feed your manuscript into AI detection software. I expect the same from you. Assistive AI is okay (spell check, voice-to-text), but you must not have used generative AI to write or self-edit your book. I am a firm believer in artists supporting artists, and hope you are too. Accordingly, you do not use generative AI for artwork, audiobook narration, or promotional materials.

Your work is confidential, and I will never share it. If I discover a “teachable moment” in your manuscript, I will write my own sentence or paragraph to illustrate the principle to share online. I will never share your work or my edits of your work.

I believe in open communication. During the editing process, you can expect a weekly progress update. I always endeavour to return manuscripts on or before the due date. But if for any reason I need more time, you will be the first to know.
